Opening a Facebook page takes two minutes. Setting it up so customers trust it, find it and can reach you takes a little longer — and that is the part most businesses skip. This checklist covers the essentials.
One name and one look everywhere
Your business name, profile picture and cover image should match on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp. Customers should recognise you instantly, whichever app they are in. Use the same username wherever it is available.
Fill in every contact field
- Phone number and WhatsApp, in international format (+94…).
- Email address and website link.
- Location or service area, and opening hours.
- Category — choose the one that matches what people actually search for.
Switch to professional accounts
Facebook pages, Instagram professional accounts and TikTok business accounts unlock statistics, contact buttons and advertising. A personal profile used as a business cannot do these things — and can be restricted for it.
Set up WhatsApp Business
The free WhatsApp Business app gives you a business profile, a catalogue, quick replies and an away message for outside working hours. Link it to your Facebook page and Instagram so customers can message you in one tap.
Protect the accounts
- Turn on two-factor authentication for every account.
- Add a second trusted admin to your Facebook page, so the business never depends on one person’s login.
- Use the business email address, not a personal one, as the account email.
Post on a schedule you can keep
Three good posts a week, every week, beat ten posts in one week followed by silence. Plan a month ahead, mix product posts with useful tips and behind-the-scenes content, and answer comments and messages quickly.
